Facebook Break - The Follow-Up

by Topsy on 12-09-2010 at 11:28 AM
What a weird age we live in where I actually blog a follow-up on my experiment to take a Facebook break until the end of the year!!! But for those of you who were wondering if I could really do it, I REALLY have. And it has been GLORIOUS!! Now that's not to say I haven't even so much as been on the site, because that would be a lie. I'm on the site a LOT for the sake of this site and others that I administer, so I'm by no means a Facebook-hermit, but the only times I've even visited

Could I dare take a Facebook break?

by Topsy on 11-22-2010 at 04:59 PM
Something has happened to me since turning the big 4-0 this past weekend. Suddenly I'm re-evaluating lots of different things in my life, and for some reason, my personal Facebook account is taking top billing in the "re-evaluation" category.

Homeschooling and Dual Enrollment, Part One....or "I wanna be a textbook publisher!"

by Topsy on 08-20-2010 at 11:47 AM
This fall marked a brand new era of education for our family as our oldest son is now 16, the minimum age you must be in North Carolina to participate in a dual enrollment program at your local community college. He had been practically counting the days through the whole of last year until he could take part in what he views as a true "rite of passage." Something about taking courses with college students at a real live institution of higher learning has been big on DS's bucket list for some

Make Way For Change!

by Topsy on 03-16-2010 at 10:55 AM
This is the first year that my family and I have ventured into the exciting and uncertain world of "interest-led learning." My oldest son prefers to call it "free-form schooling." And my younger son doesn't even mind throwing around the controversial "unschooling" term. (I refuse to let him use it around our more judgmental friends and family members) My sons are technically in their eighth and tenth "grades",

SecularHomeschool.com is a community and information source where secular homeschoolers ARE the majority. This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
