I am what is called an "accidental" homeschooler; my daughter went from the best elementary school to the worst middle school but I can't stay at home and I can't pay for tutoring. Her grades have dropped significantly even though in 5th grade she was tested and fell only a few points shy of the requirements for the gifted program.

I am sure glad I have found people to talk to because I need the support. I am reviewing various museums and things to make plans on visiting, but I haven't set any objectives and would like to have that done before we go. I would also like to get together with another family so that it will be more fun.

Anyway, I have to get busy and I appreciate your advice. I intend to visit this site much more frequently in the future.

    Hello Jetty,

I'm sorry that it took me so long to respond. I have a binge and purge love affair with the internet, lol, not to mention some extra stuff going on. I do intend to use Florida Virtual School. There were a few suggestions about time lines and of course suggested courses per grade level. I intend to use the homeschool option as well, not the county branch of fl virtual school so that we can enroll any time during the year. I have been going over different kinds of curriculum, but I am hoping that the virtual school will have that laid out for me. Right now I am beginning to experiment with different schedules as far as class time at home. Both of the adults in our house will still be working full time, and that scares me to death.

    Hello Jetty!

I am just trying to get to know people around the NW Florida area. I am brand new to homeschooling; in fact, my daughter is still finishing up 6th grade in a public school. We don't have a very flexible schedule but I still wanted to get out there and get to know people since my daughter Tori is apprehensive about being lonely. I also found the LIFE group on facebook and have added them recently. Anyway, I will send you a friend request from this website in case you want to get to know others, too.

    Good luck!

    Hi jettyspagetti,

I don't know where you are in Okaloosa co but have you checked for groups? I know of a couple tiny groups in Ft. Walton and Navarre. We have members on our secular group all the way out your way. You're welcome to join and ask if anyone lives out your way.

Rather, respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
