Not new to NC but brand new to homeschooling. Today was our official first day. It went rather smoothly. We should definately get in touch soon. It would be great to get to know another homeschooler that isn't hitting me in the head with the Bible constantly

Looking for other secular homeschoolers in the area. I'm in Elizabethtown (White Lake area) and, as I'm sure you know, seculars are hard to come by in these parts. What are the ages of your children?

We fell way off the path with poetry, though I really hope to add it in as a family thing this coming fall, probably during Tuesday teatime a la Bravewriter.

I've already made arrangements to buy a friend's copies of the books we don't have in the next level, and bought the Lit. program, as well. That being said, Susan Wise Bauer has a new writing program coming out that looks pretty fabulous. She has a large sample of the first book (and TM) on the WTM site. What we may end up doing is using MCT plus this new writing series (comes out in October at Peace Hill Press, January at Amazon and the rest), and treating Essay Voyage as extra writing to do as needed.

Hi! I haven't been here for a while so I missed this message. My eldest LOVES Caesar's English (the Latin and Greek root vocabulary part of the program), likes the grammar/practice part (and I think he's learned a lot this year), and is so-so with the writing part. Writing is a struggle--Jazz is probably mildly dysgraphic, though he's never been diagnosed. Add to that the fact that he's way over on the right-brained side of things, so getting the swirling mass of ideas in his head to turn into cohesive thoughts on paper is difficult to say the least.

continued (SHS just told me the message was too long so I'm putting it in two parts). . .

It is the home for non-religious homeschoolers, eclectic homeschoolers, freethinking homeschoolers AND anyone interested in homeschooling irrespective of religion. This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
