@MHA - I've never heard of acidic skin, nor acidic body (other than the acidosis you mentioned) - so I'd go with "pass the bean dip". But, she might want a follow up with her MD about the joint pain - she might have some inflammation around the area (due to other factors).

Based on dealing with a grandmother who seems to have phantom ailments, I also agree with the "pass the bean dip" approach.
Speaking of beans, we also eat a fair number of bean-based meals through the week (no cholesterol!!). But the after effects are not always pleasant.
We will be mixing up Thanksgiving dinner in terms of veggies. Green bean casserole is a must, according to my son, (It's the MAIN dish in his view.) But instead of mushy, steamed veggies, we are going to roast them. Instead of the overly sugary sweet potato casserole with pineapples and marshmallows my mom has always made, we will do twice-baked sweet potatoes with a dollop of maple sugar and pecans.
RTB: The people of Portugal were lovely. All it takes is courtesy, a willingness to try the language, and interest, and we could get some decent conversations going. If we have a chance, we'd definitely go back. But so many other places in the world to see too........Carol

Oooh Thanksgiving sides!
Inmom, what is your sweet potato recipe?
Years ago I found this roasted sweet potatoes with (fresh, roasted) pineapples, and its been a big hit. No nasty marshmallows or veggies drowning in added sugar!

I think my mother in law has given up on sides, so Im free to bring as many veggie dishes as I want.(She still thinks I dont like turkey and gravy, and Im okay with skipping it this year.)

MapleHill: Sorry I should not laugh, but I am now just having images of a comic/graphic novel series about acidic grandma who dissolves everything she comes into contact with.
As a chemist, no I have not heard of anything like that before. The only thing I could find about plants not liking being touched was this article, which is super interesting but not because of acidic humans.
If her joint is giving her pain, that is something I would follow up on like RTB said, even if it is not her acidic body eating it up.New Zealand-based. DD 11 (year 6 [NZ system]) homeschooled, and DD 6 (year 1 [NZ system]) who is currently trying out public school.

Inmom, those sweet potatoes were so easy!
Hubby (very veggie averse) even ate the skin!

It will probably be in our regular rotation now. (I did use butter, and never the marshmallows.)
Thanks for the recipe and the site!Homeschooling DS13, DS6.
