Finally remembered to upload this. A torrey pine outside of its normal environment. I think it is relatively mature as it has been there as long as I can remember going with DD10. I will have to check exactly how old it is sometime. But...so skinny and tall and straight!

That is a pretty sad looking tree!
I wonder if it is lack of natural environment, or they just got a dud.Homeschooling DS13, DS6.

I know. It is just so weird looking. Maybe with all the abundant rainfall and lack of any environmental pressures (wind, salt spray), it has just put all its growth into going up, up, up. I only recognized it from its needles after we came back from San Diego. Its a bit off the path in an area most people don't walk through, but I just thought the needles looked like a Torrey pine, and the sign beside it identified it as that.

That makes the Good Timber poem come to mind!
The bonsai community favors the gnarled and weather shaped trees, they even have a term for it... I think its yamadori, but Ive been out of that hobby for a while! This tourist to NZ isnt that!
Kudos to you on recognizing it by its needles!Homeschooling DS13, DS6.
