I was reading Penn Jillette’s “diet autobiography”, and he mentioned this intersection of atheism and meditation...

Sam Harris, Waking up.
Maybe it would interest you, INMOM? (And maybe your library wouldnt put you at #26 on 6 copies.... it estimated 10 weeks until I get it.)
But Penn does say the author is a bit of a LSD hippie. So Im clarifying that Im not recommending it based on personal experience...Last edited by alexsmom; 01-27-2019 at 03:02 AM.

Wow that is cold! When it gets that cold, do you have to do special stuff? Are grocery stores heated? How do they keep produce from getting too cold on the way to the stores? (Clearly I live in a sheltered place! In low 70s here today!)

I'm assuming produce still comes in refrigerated trucks like it normally does. Just this time of year, it keeps it WARMER than the outside temp. And yes, all stores are heated.
Personally, if one goes outside you have heavy coat (or blizzard-proof coveralls if out for a while shoveling, for example), warm boots, gloves/mittens, hats, scarves, face masks if out for a while. Keep gas tanks full, warm up the car before driving off. In older, less insulated homes people run a trickle of water at night to keep pipes from freezing.
Outside animals may have to come inside. Before we insulated the chicken house, one winter we had to move 11 hens and one rooster (all full grown) into our basement to keep warm. We corralled them with broken down cardboard boxes and a blanket over the top to keep the flying out. They were generally quiet except the one time the rooster started crowing while I was tutoring in the kitchen above.....Carol

Brrrr - Stay warm!
One of our chickens got heat stroke once. Poor dear - I immersed her in pail of water, then had to keep her in a laundry basket sitting over the AC before she was alert. She spent the rest of the day in the hanging out in the empty bathtub.Last edited by RTB; 01-27-2019 at 07:04 PM.

I wouldn't say I follow Sam Harris super closely, but I have seen him speak on several videos on youtube. He seems like a really smart guy to me, and I really like pretty much everything he says, so I'm a fan of his
I'm not really sure what he means by "LSD hippie", as I haven't seen anything that would make me say that, but again, I don't follow him super closely to know everything about him.
