Friday Roll Call, 4/21 - Earth Day edition!
So with Earth Day tomorrow, does your family have anything related planned? We were regular volunteers at the Dunes National Lakeshore when the kids were younger, so we'd usually do something there.
I'd LOVE to attend the March for Science in Washington DC. I can't attend a satellite march tomorrow either due to family commitments. If you are interested, there are links to local marches.
Hope you all have a great weekend!Carol

We're going to march in Lansing, despite the fact that I have two sheep to shear yet and I have a whole bunch of gardening going on.
And Bill Nye Saves the World starts today on Netflix and the kid is excited...!
If there hadn't been a reason to march, we'd probably be at our nature center doing their classes/walks.
have a good weekend people!Eclectically homeschooling 8th grade dd, who likes science as much as art...

Girl has a concert out of town, so she and DH will be doing that, but Boy and I might be going to the Fairbanks March for Science.

I have an appointment later today. I forgot it was Earth Day too. I never remember until I see something on tv about it. I'm not good with dates and holidays most of the time.

I have a lot of yard work and work-work to do this weekend.
We are considering going to the march in South Bend. Typically it is an easy drive but there is so much construction between here and there I hesitate to make the drive.
It's a great day to hike today. My favorite weather: mostly sunny, 50's-60's and breezy.
If the kids would get something school-ish done I would like to hike. But they are moving very slowly and have little interest in hiking today. So, I will probably do yard work.

I decided against the march for science. Crowds are an issue for us. Instead we will support the march by sending out postcards made out of recycled cardboard to our state and federal representatives with our concerns.
We also celebrate science everyday with our "Science: More Than A Wild Ass Guess" bumper sticker.A mama who teaches college writing, as well as help her 11-year-old in
choosing his own life adventure. Using Global Village School to support our desire to develop a sense of social justice and global awareness.

We have trouble with crowds too so I was surprised when my daughter said she really wanted to go. My son and I have more problems with crowds than she does but she needs a break from noise. I'm a bit worried we will go and she will be ready to leave after a few minutes. The kids went to a birthday
party at an arcade a few weeks ago and after spending two hours with the noise she got into the car, demanded silence, then spent the rest of the day and evening in her room.
I like your postcard idea.homeschooled 4th through 8th grade - currently in public high school 10th grade

No Earth Day plans here.
Yesterday when I got home from little DSs therapy, there was a work truck in my driveway.... the patio guys decided to do the install a day early. Our old shade hadnt been disassembled, they just picked it up and moved it out of the way.
Heres the before:

And the after.... note that the table is not being shaded!

Its nice out there in the daytime, and with weather in the 80s, Im sure its already helping stave off the day we have to turn on the AC.
Now to find someone to take away the old shade! I offered it for free on our neighborhood NextDoor app, and had two flakes. Free on craigslist, Im on my second person. Ugggg.
At least its 1 of the 3 home improvement projects done.Tiles next!
Back to science and math for next week, as well as two mornings of the state testing. Im hoping the work we have done this year with learning how to respond to academic questions (multiple choice, etc) will show in the results, which we dont get back until September.Homeschooling DS13, DS6.
