    Default Hello from Oregon!

Hi! My name is Sandy and I have homeschooling my 9 year old daughter from the start. We have loved our journey thus far! We are excited to be a part of this community and to be able to share ideas with all of you!

Welcome Sandy. We live a long way from you (in New Zealand) but we lived in the US for a while (3.5 years in San Diego) and had a visit to Oregon (Portland, Columbia River Gorge, and out to the coast from Portland). It was the one place we visited in the US that reminded us of NZ in terms of the climate and type of growth/shrubs/trees.

What part of Oregon are you in? Do you have much of a homeschooling community where you are? What curricula/resources do you like using?

I have two girls, one just turned 10 and the other just turned 5. We have a small homeschooling community that are good for big/less frequent events like education visits to the local museum etc., but not so great (for our family, might work better for others) for more frequent casual socializing. So we rely on after school activities (for the kids) and horse riding lessons (for me) for that.

SecularHomeschool.com is a community and information source where secular homeschoolers ARE the majority. It is the home for non-religious homeschoolers, eclectic homeschoolers, freethinking homeschoolers AND anyone interested in homeschooling irrespective of religion. This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
