    Default South Jersey

    Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I live in south Jersey and have a 3 yr old son and 1 yr old daughter. My wife and I have been seriously considering homeschooling for many reasons. I've personally always learned best through experiencing things first hand outside of a classroom, and I think I'd really like my kids to have that opportunity.

I like the idea of a homeschooling co-op so the parents and kids can learn with and from each other with occasional meet ups, but I have a feeling it will be difficult to find a group of local, like minded, secular homeschoolers in the suburbs of NJ. I'm a little nervous about not giving my kids enough social opportunities. I really want my kids to have friends, and I'd hate to deprive them of that. I know I'll have to work hard to find community, but beyond things like sports and scouts, I'm wondering what type of social opportunities there are for secular homeschoolers. Though I am not religious, most of my family is, and my homeschooled nieces and nephews have a huge community through their church. We just have different lifestyles and beliefs and a christian homeschooling group wouldn't make much sense for myself or my kids.

Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated. Also, if there are any fellow NJ homeschoolers out there who would like to connect, please don't hesitate!
