Hey--Dad of 3 (2 school age) in Charleston, SC. My wife and I previously homeschooled the oldest using a couple different religious curricula. The kids spent the last year in public school, but we are leaning towards going back to homeschooling this year (5th and 1st grades).

Due to, well, a change in beliefs, we're trying to find a secular solution. Finding a curriculum doesn't seem to be a problem, but secular homeschool groups in the area aren't exactly ubiquitous.

My wife, who will be doing the majority of the work, was hoping to find a coop/support group--anybody in the area know of one?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chad

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Did you check out the SHS list of local groups?
    https://www.secularhomeschool.com/con...country-state/

If you don't see one for your area, I would contact other nearby areas asking if they know of any groups. We live in a place with very few secular homeschoolers, so I tried all kinds of things.

Also remember you don't need a homeschooling group for social interaction. There are lots of activities that kids can participate in that are open to all kids like, scouts, dance, karate, art/drama classes, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA/YWCA, library programs, organized sports and others things, depending on their interests. We have used this route in place of a homeschooling group.

SecularHomeschool.com is a community and information source where secular homeschoolers ARE the majority. This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
