    Hello all!

    We're with a charter in California and 7th year is supposed to include 1 semester of health. Anyone have a good resource or idea for something to do with this? I really feel like we've gone over all of the basics in our regular lives.

    Ive been looking at the same things! My oldest has decided to be “vegetarian” but is a little fuzzy on the reasons, so I thought a good nutrition course would be beneficial. (Searching around didnt give me anything that suited my disposition, though.)
    If you dont want to use the resources the charter has, you could make your own health course covering the topics that are relevant to your situation.
    Here is a list of topics:

    The charter will be making the transcript for you anyways, as long as you put a good faith effort into raising your kid’s awareness of the assorted topics, I think youd be fine.
    Theres an old thread here on the forum about health and sex ed, it might have links for you.
    Lots of videos should cover the topics, too.

    I have this one on my list of possible curricula for the sex ed aspect of health from when I did a lot of researching when we started this homeschool journey 3 years ago. I have never used it, so do not know what it is like, but here is a link to the Grade 7–9 It is developed by Unitarian Universalists but says that it is secular. I like the look of the content anyway.

    For food and exercise stuff, is there a sport that your child is involved in? My daughter is very into ballet and I recently bought her a good ballet reference book and it has sections in it devoted to things like healthy eating (since it is ballet, it has a lot about making sure that you eat enough to fuel your body and it has text about avoid the myths and pitfalls of needing to be a thin stick to be successful, which I appreciated), exercising in a healthy way, and self care. Anyway, she loves reading it because it is presented to her in a way that includes her favorite hobby (dance).

    Otherwise, the library is a great resource for books on healthy eating, exercise, self care, etc. If you draft a list of topics using the link that Alexsmom posted, you could just get out a book for each topic.

    Thanks! I'll check out those links and see what we come up with.

    My girls are really into Girl Scouts and camping and are interested in doing the PCT or Grand Canyon hikes next year so I'll work on adding the planning for that and smaller hikes and trips part of the curriculum.
