    About SecularHomeschool.com

1268172784_page_about-pngSecularHomeschool.com was created to provide information, resources, and a place to share and connect with secular homeschoolers across the world. Secularhomeschool.com aims to be your one-stop shop for all things homeschool! We will be highlighting information about wonderful secular homeschool resources, and keeping you up to date with what is going on in the world of secular homeschooling. But that is only the beginning. Secularhomeschool.com is your playground. A place to share the things that are important to you. A place to create and join groups that share your interests. A place to give and get advice. There are no limits to what you can do at Secular Homeschool, so join today and help build the community you have always wanted.

SecularHomeschool.com is a community and information source where secular homeschoolers ARE the majority. It is the home for non-religious homeschoolers, eclectic homeschoolers, freethinking homeschoolers AND anyone interested in homeschooling irrespective of religion. This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.

katrinabio-pngMeet Katrina Taylor - Secular Homeschool’s site, content and social media manager. Katrina/Aandwsmom is a veteran homeschooling Mom of 2 boys. Public school issues led her family to become accidental homeschoolers in 2008. Using Time4Learning as their main curriculum, she quickly realized homeschooling was a perfect fit for her boys. She has been a working member and administrator of Secular Homeschool since 2010. Along with homeschooling, she has been a childcare provider and business owner for special needs children for over 25 years. She believes that secular, child-led learning is one of the joys of homeschooling. Katrina resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, 2 boys and numerous critters on her small urban farm. • Absolutely not! SecularHomeschool.com is free to join and free to participate in. There are no membership fees, hidden costs, or charges of any kind for members.

    • How do I figure my way around SecularHomeschool.com?
      • Well, after you have created your profile, you can access it any time by clicking on your "Username" link in the top navigation menu. (Don't see your username up there? You're probably not currently logged into the site)
      • The "Settings" link in that menu is where you will make any changes to your profile including choosing a profile picture and sharing info about yourself. You can also edit your email or password here, customize your forum signature, and choose the level of privacy you want for your site profile.
      • The "Notifications" menu will alert you to any new site messages that any site member might send you and will let you know when others have "liked" your posts.
      • In the main navigation menu, you will find links to the main sections of the site: the Home Page, Secular Curriculum Directory, Community Forum, Favorite Resources, and Article Archive by Category. Still can't find what you need? Our Site Search should help.

    • Why aren't my forum posts showing up?
      • To help us control the amount of spam that comes onto the site, we moderate your first two forum posts. This means that your first two posts are in moderation and will not be visible to anyone until we can approve them. But, don't panic. Your posts are still there.... it can take up to 24 hours for the posts to show up, but usually it is only a couple of hours.
      • Blog posts.... since we have updated the system it is now NOT possible to add a blog post until after you get through the first two moderated comments. After those are approved then you will be allowed to post blog section of the forum. They are still held in moderation mode until a site admin can look them over, since this is where we get most spam activity.

    • Why are my posts moderated?
      • Here at SHS, we do not moderate content UNLESS you are promoting your product or are spamming the site. By moderating the first two posts it allows us to see that you are who you say you are We try not to step in on the forum too much as well, unless a member becomes abusive towards others. We feel that we are all grown-ups and can make the decision to discuss almost any topic in a adult matter.

    • How do I report a forum post that I suspect might be spam or abusive?
      • It is easy to report a post or blog..underneath each thread/post there is a little triangle with a exclamation mark inside of it, you can click on that it will take you to another screen where you can input a message then hit submit report. OR you can use the contact us and let us know that way with a link to the post/blog you are reporting.
