• Ways to Homeschool on a Low Budget Part 1

pizap-com15631416326431-jpgHomeschooling can be expensive but it can also be done cheaply, you just need to know some tips and tricks!

    • Assess your budget. It doesn’t matter how or why you need to, life happens. Decide on a budget you can feasibly do for homeschooling. Is it easier for you to set aside a block of money or do a little each month?

    • Family and Friends can be your asset! Whether it is school supplies, crafting supplies, old books or even scrap paper. Don’t turn it down. Grandparents asking for gift ideas - consider a membership to a local museum or zoo instead of a toy.

    • Check with your local school. Yep. Just because you are a homeschooler, doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of your local school’s cast-offs. End of the year, many schools clear out old books, textbooks, supplies and even furniture(think student desks and bookshelves).

    • Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Let Go and Local Homeschool Groups. All are places to get FREE stuff. You just have to be diligent AND set up your search to notify you.

    • Yard Sales. Great places to get cheap things like globes, books, posters. And most are willing to bargain lower.

    • Back to School Sales. These usually start in July and sales are awesome. Remember to not buy more than you can store! But who can resist 10 cents for a notebook! Not me!

    • Library Book Sales. Make friends with your librarian. Most libraries have book sales and even free boxes of books to get rid of. If your librarian knows your needs, she usually will set some aside or notify you of upcoming discards.

    • Dollar Tree. They have an amazing educational section and it changes throughout the year. School supplies like educational posters, test tubes, math manipulatives for $1.

These are just a few things that can get your started homeschooling on a low budget. Look for Part 2 later this month, right here on Secular Homeschool!
