• Five Reasons WHY Your Child Should Learn a Foreign Language

    unnamed-1-jpg
Bonjour! So, either you have reached that point in your homeschool that your child is required to learn a foreign language or they have asked to learn one. Inside you are thinking that you personally hated that class in high school and are currently wondering WHY you should even bother teaching your child a foreign language. I mean, this is America after all and we speak English. Let me tell you why taking a foreign language is more important than you think!

    • It improves their memory and increases attention span.
    • It builds self-confidence.
    • It boosts creativity.
    • Once you master one foreign language, it is 10x easier to learn another.
    • Great for future careers.

Just think of all the ways you can expand your homeschool because of teaching a foreign language.

    • You can learn alongside your child. WIN.
    • You can study the country or countries where the language is spoken. Geography! WIN.
    • You can take that learning and cook dishes from those areas. Home Ec, Math, Reading, Science! WIN.
    • You can practice and enhance you foreign language skills by checking out books at the library in that language and work on reading them. Reading, Spelling! WIN

And there are so many ways to teach it. If one way doesnít work for your child, switch it up. Books, audio, video, video games(Nintendo DS has several languages), online learning, paid sites, free sites. Check your local Community Center for classes. Find a neighbor who speaks a foreign language and see if they will teach you and your child. The goal is to learn and enjoy learning. It is that easy, voila! Au revoir.

This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
