As we are wrapping up our homeschool year and looking forward to getting outside, getting our head out of the books and soaking up some Vitamin D.. you realize that you also need to clear and clean up that homeschool clutter! Another year of homeschooling behind you and another year you promised yourself you would organize it. We have all been in those shoes.

Summer is a perfect time to do this! Why? YARD SALES!

Before you do this, decide what you want in your homeschool area. Wall shelves? Bookshelves? Carts? Desks? File cabinets? All of the above? Make a list of your expectations. Supplies needed. Measure the area so you know what sizes to look for. Nothing worse than finding the PERFECT set of shelves, get them home and find out.they dont fit and you cant return them because they were a yard sale bargain. I speak from experience. Remember you can paint anything to suit your theme. Get the kids helping, ask their input. What extras would they like? Set a budget and stick to it.

I love the challenge of finding what I want and need at a bargain. Scouring yard sales and thrift stores while saving money AND redoing my homeschool area gives me a thrill! Think of it as me practicing my homeschool Mom math skills!LOL

And a personal tip: Leave room to evolve. It might be the perfect homeschool room NOW but your kids and your homeschool needs will grow and change over the years. I think I changed our area up in one form or another every year. What worked the previous year, may not work this year.

Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
