Holy Cow--what a week!

This has nothing to do with homeschooling, but I am going to share anyway. Today, for the 2nd time in two weeks, a bizarre--and not good--incident has happened near our house.
As it happens, we live in a small, very conservative town, which normally does not have much crime. Of course, this morning would be the exception. The "house" next door to ours has long been converted into a business, and is one of a few hair stylist and tanning shops in our town. Apparently, they were the victims of an armed robbery at 10:30 this morning. The police are still over there, with the area roped off with yellow crime scene tape. Thankfully, the women who work there were not harmed, although they did appear to be shaken. (I would have been, in their shoes!)

Before this, last week, at 10:30 at night, we heard a crash in the alley behind our house, followed by the very loud sound of escaping gas. Turns out a man driving through the alley at night, accidentally hit one of the gas mains and got his truck lodged on top of it. Talk about a nerve wracking few hours, while the emergency workers tried to get his truck unhooked and the gas flow stopped. We were told to stay in the room farthest from the gas leak, but to not go outside, because our entire house was completely enveloped in gas, except on the inside. Eventually, the leak was stopped and we were no worse for the wear, (except my nerves!). ...Sometimes the world seems a much more dangerous place than I normally give it credit for being!

Wow sounds like some of the craziness that happens in our small town on occasion ! Glad you are ok, and weren't harmed by either situation.
