First day! 14 September, 2009

So, today was our first day of home school! It went . . . about as expected.

Raven screamed 'NO' any time I suggested anything. But thats what he does . . . any time i suggest a chore, a walk, a meal .. . he screams NO! but then does fine as long as I ignore the no. Which often involves picking him up and placing him where he needs to be. Luckily he's only 6, and very skinny - not even 40 lb yet!

Orion was a total sweetheart - he did every single thing I asked, and participated fully and willingly. Of course, I cant take full credit for that - he always has a 'honeymoon' period at school, too, so I can expect things to start falling apart in a month when its not all new any more. Just about when I expect Raven to start falling in to the routine!

Highlights of today - we started with Obama's school speech, and Raven said that if he was old enough to vote, he would vote for Obama (he also laughed several times during the speech, which is an extremely good sign). Orion still has the goal of wanting to be a biologist, but also put goals of enjoying home schooling.

Personally, my stress level is much lower than it has been for the past days. We've crossed that big threshold and survived! Plus I got my chores done earlier than usual since I was also banished from the computer until 2:30! And most amazingly, dh has suddenly decided to be very supportive, repeatedly telling me not to over-worry the curriculum, and that learning is a natural thing which WILL happen, and that he is sure we will settle in to a routine once we get through the adjustment stage Laughing

I'll try to write again after the first week.

This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
