For Love of Education: tales from a secular homeschooling family

For the Love of Education will chronicle my homeschooling journey and will serve as a place to discuss some of the issues facing teachers, children, parents, and administrators. It is a place to remove politics from education and focus on the true purpose of it- to provide children with a life-long love of learning and to help them develop the skills (both basic and advanced) that they will need to become the policy-makers of the future.

by , 09-09-2012 at 12:35 AM (For Love of Education: tales from a secular homeschooling family)
Iíve mentioned before that my daughter loves schedules. She likes to know what is going to happen and she likes to check off a ďTo Do List.Ē My husband likes schedules too and gets pretty flustered if I change up our plans last minute. Iím a slave to schedules as well, but have always approached them with an attitude of flexibility. My daughter and my husband donít share this love of flexibility with me at all. So, when preparing for the upcoming school year, I decided to give Sue Patrickís Workbox System ...

So we are finishing up on Kindergarten and itís been a very full year! Below you will find mini reviews about the resources that we used this year. What would I have done differently?

    1. Not over plan. I went crazy thinking that I would not have enough materials to cover the whole year, but my worry-wort tendencies just caused me to become overwhelmed thinking about what we had to complete. I am so over that now!
    2. Check things sooner rather than later if they are not working.

by , 09-26-2011 at 04:59 PM (For Love of Education: tales from a secular homeschooling family)
After deciding to halt the Kindergarten progress back in July because we were just not ready (the beauty of homeschooling), we dove in this past week and have made so much progress. Truthfully, we did not start out too well. The Tornado was reluctant and defiant at the beginning of the week. I am still in awe of how independent and stubborn ...
