Our Journey this far...

This has been an eye opening experience for all of us. My husband has been more open to homeschooling. The people who ask about homeschooling and why we have chosen to take our daughter out of public school has opened the eyes of many about the current state of our education system. Our daughter has made so much progress. Yes it gets lonely at times for her, but we have plenty to keep us busy between play group, Girl Scouts and P.E. class. She still hangs out with the kids she went to school with, "socialization" is certianly not lacking.
At times I see my husband saying to her that she needs to spend more time on school work. But when we review what she has learned, he says wow. I think she has covered more since starting homeschooling than she has since kinder. I at times say to myself am I doing the right thing? is she lonely? Shes driving me up the wall, maybe she should go back! And then we spend some down time together and realize she is right where she needs to be and she can run and jump and yell and scream and scribble all she wants!
I have seen her grow in the last few months. She loves to read and write and draw. Her stories have expanded. Her drawing is so much more detailed. Colorful. When she gets together with the Homeschool Girl Scout Troop, I see how they all work togther and how creative they all are. Voting, talking learning, working together.
We are all learing quite a bit on our homeschool journey. Others around us are learning as well. At first I was a mess. I was going over all the curriculums repeatedly. Pulling my hair out trying to find something to suit her. Then when we actually started I stressed about how much time we spent on subjects, the amount of the subject. Always thinking the first few weeks "is it enough, is it she I messing her I depriving her..."and so on and so on. I have learned to relax. Enjoy the time together. Learn with her. Show her the world. Feed her little brian and heart. Make them grow!!!

It is always so reassuring when dad is like- oh wow! They ARE learning! It is pretty cool when you finally get that back up. Good for you for sticking with it-it sounds like it will be a real rewarding experience for your daughter! Yeah!
