Ok friends, I have been out of the young person curriculum game for a long time. I want a fun typing tutor for Quince, he is a non writer so far, so I would like him to learn to type. Any ideas. He hunts and pecks very well, and knows all of his letters, he just needs fun finger placement.

I'm going to pay attention to this thread, I was just thinking the other day that Eliana needs a fun way to learn how to type because she just chicken pecks her way around the keyboard when she's using her schoolzone software, lol.

I have a free download from this site http://www.kidwaresoftware.com/kidtype.htm that we are using for finger placement in the beginning stage. It isn't anything "fun" in terms of cartoon characters, it's just a very basic kids program. If you are looking for something more cartoony I know a few women have worked with a Spongebob program with great results.

We use this and love it:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/

It is also free and has lots of other great educational stuff beyond typing like math, literacy and science. DS LOVES it and will spend hours on this site.

We've been using Typing Instructor for Kids. My son's up to about 20 wpm which is pretty good IMO. It's got different plans for focusing on different keys. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much work with capitals, so I'm starting to get slightly concerned. I'm thinking of letting him get wpm higher and then maybe look for a different program that will be sure to get those capital letters in!

I use the BBC Dance Mat typing too. It's free. My oldest seems to enjoy it. I might look at the other link listed above too. Typing is on my list for the year for both my 4th and 2nd graders.
