Free American History DVD!
http://classroom.history.com/america-dvd/event/form

From Clickschooling email... Hurry, you only have until July 1, 2010 to take advantage of this terrific opportunity...

History.com is offering a free DVD of AMERICA: The Story of US to every school in the United States - including homeschools! The 12-hour series premiered in April and offers "a fascinating look at the stories of the people, events, and... See More innovations that forged our nation." To get your school's DVD (retail value about $60), you must fill out the request form located at the website. It asks for basic info including:

Principal's Name (you)
School Name (name of your homeschool)
School Address (home address)

Be sure to click on the small button at the bottom of the page that says, "Yes, send me the Free DVD of AMERICA The Story of Us and occasional updates about the teaching materials available for educational HISTORY programs" before clicking on the "Submit Request Form."

I have not personally seen this series but thought I'd pass it along anyway considering that it is from the History Channel.

Also, you can get a Free 6' American Presidents Timeline poster. http://www.c-spanclassroom.org/Special-Offers.aspx

Again, info from Clickschooling email...The 6ft long poster details the lives and public service careers of every president, plus key historical events, Supreme Court cases, and technology milestones throughout 280 years of Presidential history.

When you get to the website you'll see a "Teachers: Log In" or "Register Here to Get This Offer." Click on that link and ... See Moreit will take you to a ... See Morepage where you can login to order your poster.

If you are not currently a member of the C-SPAN Classroom, a free membership service for social studies teachers (including homeschoolers), then you must register. Look for the words, "Register New Account" on the brown bar above the poster. Click on that link and a new page opens where you can register and order the poster.

Not only will you get the poster, but free membership includes the ability to store C-SPAN Classroom videos and video clips, access free supplementary materials such as lesson plans and handouts (in pdf downloads), and you'll learn about special offers such as this "American Presidents Timeline" poster.

Thank you Mommykicksbutt! I've spent hours hunting down leads sparked by this post. To get the videos I wonder if it matters that I'm not officially a hs since I don't have my paperwork in yet? I doubt they check (or care)..? Anyway, I watched some of it online & it was good... even if overly nationalistic at first glance. I hope it is balanced - if not, well - that's what hs if for... ;)

I don't think they check. I made up a name of my homeschool and use it for all those types of requests and I also get the goods and they'd have to check with me if they wanted to check that we are homeschoolers. No one has ever called (except for Scholastic when I set up my group's Scholastic Book Clubs account)
