As part of our study of the revolution, I decided we should create our own Declaration of Independence. I have a little blog entry mentioning our sources, and linking to a full-sized image of what we wrote - it came out very well - one friend thinks it could go viral!

That's awesome, Cara! I like the idea of making up one's own declaration--could be a fun project when we wrap up the Revolutionary War.

Great job to your boys! :)

I love it too- and I think it really speaks about the rights and responsibilities of parents re: education.

Very well done!

Good, but there is one little clause that causes trouble, and that is, that "if the public school system does not fulfill its purpose, it is the right of parents to..."

Parents have the right and responsibility to make decisions on their kids' education no matter what. Not dependent on a failing school system, not dependent on other people's opinions. Parental prerogative must stand unchallenged, or it doesn' stand, period.
That's my only beef.

Makes sense. We were basing it on the declaration itself, plus our personal experiences. Feel free to write your own!
