I stumbled across this while researching post-Roman Britain for our next history unit:

Early British Kingdoms http://www.earlybritishkingdoms.com/kids/index.html

The information seems solid and what I have read so far seems to be secular. There's a ton of info, broken down by subject and presented in short bullet points. Lots of cultural, historical, and literary info (mostly King Arthur and Beowulf) with references to the archaeology and written sources.

I'm totally impressed with this site. It has been great for me to get a grasp of Medieval British history. It would be good for an upper-elementary or middle school student to read as well.
