View Full Version : Oil Spill Activity

In a random way, because for whatever reason it all came together today, we did a lesson on the oil spill. It mostly started because I was thinking about how to incorporate current events with a very sensitive child.

I was purusing Time for Kids (http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/kids/news) and they had this story on the Oil Spill (http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/kids/news/story/0,28277,1985599,00.html). Someone (I think on this site?) had a link to this activity (http://www.tryscience.org/experiments/experiments_oilslick_athome.html), and we used google earth to "look" at it. It's rather unremarkable, but that always leads to other investigations.

I should warn youm the Oil Slick activity ended as an oil slick in my backyard, but it did make the point. Amazingly, it won't be the first oil slick in my backyard.

Interesting video...and both my son and I need a haircut really soon...and the dog and cats are shedding their winter coats!

I didn't see the video, but I had read about the getting your hair cut. We gathered some dog hair to use, but forgot. Very typical around here.
