Hey all!
I had no idea that a site like this existed.
I am a mom of 4, three are homeschooled (7,8 and 10 next week). The oldest is a junior in college and a product of (gasp) the public school system. I have been very comfortably homeschooling in McKinney for 4 1/2 years and was searching for secular groups south of the Dallas area since there is a possibility that we may move in the next few months.
I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that we might be out of luck with finding a co-op within a 100 mile radius. :p

Currently, we are members of EXCEL in Carrollton, but that would be a bit of a drive from south of Glen Rose.

What will I DO?!?!?! :p

Anyway, it is nice to find a board of all like minded homeschoolers!

Be sure to drop in and join our Texas group (http://www.secularhomeschool.com/group.php?groupid=27), as we have a good many TX members and they might could point you in the right direction about a local support group. I've also seen some discussions about secular homeschooling on the DFW Area Moms (http://www.dfwareamoms.com/?) boards...that might be another place to check! Best of luck with your search. And welcome to the site!!!

I'm in Fort Worth and lookig into this group (http://www.theaonline.org/)right now and CroppinMom on here is also starting up a yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hood-County-Homeschoolers/join). They're both invlusive groups but CroppinMom is awesome so hope you can join us there! And good luck with your move, if you do -that's definitely a haul!

Hi, Teri I'm Melanie from DAM.

You know, I'm thinking "DAM" would be a good name for my own group because I say "Damn it!" quite a bit :) I need to think of a good name to go with the acronym DAMN, lol. "Digitally Able Mother of Nerds"... wait, that's Topsy. Dang, I got nothin'.

What does DAM stand for, Melanie? Can you share?

Teri

DAM is Dallas Area Moms, the old name for what is now DFW Area Moms. Old habits die hard though and after so many years we all still call it DAM, even though it would more appropriately be called DFWAM.

Teri,
Don't live in the area, so I'm not actually a member...I just keep my eye on things around the web that have to do with secular homeschooling, and the DFW boards pop up from time to time!

shark dissection? How cool! Okay, next time the dues are up, we're joining. They're not that expensive, either!

Hi Teri!

Welcome. This is a great board and we keep getting so many new people.

That shark dissection sounds too cool! We are actually in the OKC area. I'm thinking we need to join that DFW group as satellite members!

Nathalie,

Didn't I read that you are French? If so, shouldn't you actually say "merde!"?

Try to come up for an acronym for that one!

Couldn't you just imagine me with a Tshirt that reads "M.E.R.D.E."? Shoot, I could never wear that in public, even if no one else knew that it meant! Actually, merde means shit, not damn. Damn would be more like "sacrebleu", I think, although only French people in American movies use that expression! You know, "shit" doesn't sound like a bad word to me so I say it quite liberally (along with a lot of other English bad words!). But... "merde"?!? My grandma used to wash my mouth with soap if I said it so I still can't bring myself to say it outloud, lol. A good acronym... hmmm... Most Excellent Research Department of Education? DH just came up with it for me. Mine would be Maternal Eclectic Resource & Department of Education.

Actually, I knew what it meant. I was just thinking it was the national cuss word in France, LOL! I like sacrebleu. Forgot about that one. Sounds more refined than merde! So you can cuss and sound cultured at the same time.

That's another acronym for you to develop. Please get back to us on that! I think it may be a novel.

LOL, I won't even attempt that one. I do wish I could belong to a "DAM" secular group though, lol.
