View Full Version : Contests????

Does anyone have a site that lists available/current contests for kids? I'm thinking of essay contests, drawing contests, poster contests, etc. My kids would love to participate in something like (they keep hearing about these things from friends at school) that but I'm having a difficult time finding things on Google... I don't know why. Maybe it's me, but I keep getting out-of-date stuff, or stuff for college/high school only...
Thanks for any help!

Try these 3 for a start. The first one seems up-to-date, but always check the fine print for deadlines and such.

I follow this blog and use it often for our Facebook updates:

Not all are applicable for homeschoolers, but many are.

My favorite resource for contests is from Homeschool Buyers Coop:

I'd be interested in managing a monthly contest via my blog on various topics. I could have categories from different age groups on one theme and then either "judge" them myself or have a panel of judging or voting. Any interest from anyone?

(I could also do it somehow through this website, I'm sure, but then I'd have to have Topsy's permission. :)

I'd be interested, Emerald :)
What kinds of topics would you be looking for?

I'd suggest:
media presentations (video or photo slideshow)
3 dimensional art projects

- things that aren't necessarily available in other areas.

Hmm. We could start with a diorama/model on the theme of "geography." I had a project in mind already for my son that we were going to do next week. Does anyone want to join in on that theme? We could have it due December 15th. Photographs (1-3) to be submitted to me with a project description and then I can highlight each project in a post with a linkback to secularhomeschool.com and the blog of the family (if there is one).

This could be fun, because people could do buildings (pyramid, teepee, an ancient wonder, a modern building), natural environment, countries, cities, or all kinds of different things.

I could even give the winner their choice of a free Usborne book valued at $10 or less. :) That might be fun (and I love giving away books). Give kids some incentive to participate in the contest!

Okay. I created a contest. I know that this is not the same as the original request (a list of up-to-date contests), but I still ran with it and thought it would be fun! Feel free to spread this around so that we can see a bunch of different ideas. I know that I love gathering ideas from other people's projects.

I really hope that there are quite a few submissions, because I think it could be really cool both for our children (as they get to work on a project and then see what other kids do - kind of like a classroom) and for us (to see other ideas!).
