I'm new to homeschooling and planning to transition my 15 y/o son from traditional high school to homeschooling. The only homeschooling group I've found in Maine is a "Christian ministry." They offer a "getting started" workshop in a couple of weeks. Should I attend or can I get what I need to know elsewhere? Is anyone aware of a secular homeschooling group in Maine? Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to the site! I'm glad you found us. I don't have a large list of secular/inclusive groups in Maine, but check our state-by-state page (http://www.secularhomeschool.com/content/203-Secular-Homeschool-Support-Groups-by-State) to see if any are in your area. You also might check with Amy (Bradstreet)...she is an online acquaintance of mine that I know is a secular homeschooler in Maine. Here is her blog (http://onbradstreet.blogspot.com/). I hope you find some local support. Here are even more suggestions (http://www.secularhomeschool.com/content/220-How-To-Find-Other-Secular-Homeschoolers-Near-You) for locating secular homeschoolers in your area. Until then, though, we are certainly happy to be your "virtual support group"! :)

Welcome to the group! I'm not in Maine, but nearby in New Brunswick. Here's a list of homeschool groups for you to check out; there are tons! You are so fortunate to live in Maine where homeschooling is so easy and there is so much support. Several of my favorite homeschooling mama blogs are from your state and they always rave about the simplicity.

I'm sure this is just a short list, but I hope this helps:

What area are you in?

Welcome to the site. I'm just the next state over, in NH. I don't know about groups in Maine, and the only Maine homeschoolers I know are doing it for religious reasons-likely not much help. But I hope this site will be helpful for you.

Cheers.
