Just noticed that Google's amazingly entertaining Santa Tracker (https://santatracker.google.com/?utm_source=VillageHPP#village) and Holiday Activity Calendar (https://santatracker.google.com/?utm_source=VillageHPP#calendar) have an amazing geography game and "code lab" app this year - both are linked from the calendar most clearly. The geo game has you matching country outlines to countries, and has 10 increasingly difficult levels. The code lab has you solve little puzzles to code an elf's progress to a gift. (there are two practice puzzles before the game starts).

There are also some lesson plans (https://santatracker.google.com/?utm_source=VillageHPP#traditions), which all use search engines, of course.

K-2 get to compare Christmas traditions in Russia and Australia (https://static.googleusercontent.com/media/santatracker.google.com/en//lesson_plans/ST-Lesson_Plan-Grades_K-2.pdf)

Grades 3-5 get Argentina and England (https://static.googleusercontent.com/media/santatracker.google.com/en//lesson_plans/ST-Lesson_Plan-Grades_3-5.pdf)

Grades 6-8 get Greece and Nigeria (https://static.googleusercontent.com/media/santatracker.google.com/en//lesson_plans/ST-Lesson_Plan-Grades_6-8.pdf)

and Grades 9-10 get The Philippines and the US (which is really just an instruction to assign students an essay on whether the US influenced the Philippines' Christmas traditions). The assumed reading levels for the 3rd-8th grades seem deliberately unambitious, so those lessons might be more appropriate for younger kids in the age range.

Thanks for posting this. I will pass the info on to DH so he can tinker w/the site before cutting DD loose on it. Love educational time killers. :)
