View Full Version : Excellent Chemistry Set Needed

I need and Excellent chemistry set. One that actually has CHEMICALS in it, beyond sodium carbonate (washing soda) and other stuff I have at home. Stuff like...cobalt chloride or cobalt nitrate. Stuff that can be a little dangerous if not use properly.

Does such a kit even exist?

My daughter wants to do a project for a class that involves making glass beads in different colors from borax and colored with other chemicals. Some I have found...in 1 pound packages...but not all. I don't need a pound of any of these, just a few ounces. And it would be nice to have the rest of the kit to do other real experiments with.

We are ordering from this site for chemistry next year. CK01A Standard/Honors Chemistry Kit (http://www.thehomescientist.com/kits/CK01/ck01-main.html)

What about the ones from HMS Beagle - Welcome to H.M.S. Beagle - A Voyage of Science Discovery (http://www.hms-beagle.com/)

Have you looked at https://www.wardsci.com/store/ ? They have a lot of chemicals, though many are restricted, and I'm not sure how you'd go about getting those. Also, though they have kits, they don't really seem to list what's in them. But they do have a ton of stuff!

Maybe try looking at home science tools (http://www.hometrainingtools.com/chemistry/c/3/). They offer kits as well as individual chemicals (in small amounts) without the restrictions often imposed when you purchase in the 1lb sizes. I noticed they did carry the cobalt chloride you mentioned.

You all are GREAT! I think my son is getting that Honors Science course for his birthday, and I found all the chemicals I needed except Nickel Sulphate, which appears to be restricted! I am bookmarking ALL of these in my science folder! I have been searching so long for a real chemistry set...and any chemicals not included with the kit, the other places will have them!
