While checking out the Everything that your X grader needs to know books, I discovered that the framework for the books are online (legally) for free.

E.D. Hirsch, the author who writes these books also started an organization to promote the ideas at Core Knowledge® Foundation (http://www.coreknowledge.org).

The books have the outline of what to learn, but also they provide much of the text and materials, so they could be used as a text. For example in the kindergarten book, they review nursery rhymes and then they have the actual texts. If you don't need the text, some of which is also available for free on the internet, since they are out of copyright. The website provides the lists that are suggested in the book, but not the text itself.

You can download the K-8 grade sequence at Core Knowledge Sequence (K–8) (http://www.coreknowledge.org/mimik/mimik_uploads/documents/480/CKFSequence_Rev.pdf)

The website also provides teachers guides for the material for free. For those who want to see what kids are generally expected to know, as specific grades, this gives a good outline, without having to purchase the books.

Occasionally these books are mentioned as a resource here on the forums, but unless you want all of the materials that accompany the list in one location, these might work.

Wonderful resource!! I have been painstakingly going through the common core standards for each grade, but I really like this format better. Thank you so much for sharing!
