DD loves this book and said it changed the way she looked at people and the world in general.

I took this book out at the library for myself to read. I am only about 200 pages in and it's pretty good! I can't wait to finish it.

Marcus Zusak got the lifetime achievement award at the YALSA awards this morning. Which is funny because he's still in his 30's. Ah, a new art form.

I heard the movie was pure drivel. Unfortunate.

Not surprising, though. There's no good way to capture the depth of the book in 90-120 minutes with Hollywood script writers at the helm.

I think there's a way in which moviemakers get lazy when covering the Holocaust... which the book isn't exactly about, but still... Witness The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I think some directors think they can make anything about Nazi oppression and bingo, it'll be gold.

Saw an article today about this book being challenged in a NY school district because "a story told by Death, children live in unspeakable horror..be warned, it is quite confrontational at times". (That's verbatim, by the way. Wonderful use of caps and punctuation.)

The challenger also felt that Swift's "A Modest Proposal" was inappropriate because it advocated "eating babies in time of poverty/hunger". Which part of "satire" did she not understand?

I love this book!
