We're focusing on the science of baking this week.
I found this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qylxpwNhFYI)and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYXjURcBk98) great Youtube Video. They're nice companions to the book we're using titled Knead It, Punch It, Bake It. (http://www.amazon.com/Knead-It-Punch-Bake-Breadmaking/dp/0395892562)

But the great find was an entire channel of videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckELeAo-Lzo) about 18th Century Cooking. I think my boy is gonna love it.

Sharing for parents of other Kitchen Loving Kids.

There's a Chemistry of Cookies video that's pretty cool, too.

There was a great holiday cookie thing that went around a couple of years ago. Someone stole the bag of flour that Ms. Claus needed to make her cookies. The kids had to perform various tests on the different bags of white powder to determine which bag had the flour with baking soda in it. Oh here are the links. I found them.

It seems that each year Mrs. Claus bakes a special sugar cookie recipe to help Santa have all the energy he needs to deliver all those gifts around the world. However, this year a mean old elf has snuck into the kitchen and messed up all the baking powders. Since they are all white powders, Mrs. Claus does not know which is which. He left three bags of mystery powders and the North Pole Bureau of Investigations has six bags of white powder found in Santa's house. It is up to the children to help Ms. Clause identify which white powders she needs to make the cookies. Without them Santa will not be able to deliver all the gifts he has to deliver.

Here is the link to the student's page and directions for them.
