Default Weekly Poll: How do you bounce back after a vacation, illness, or extended time off?

Fresh off a vacation and finding it hard for us all to get back into the groove of things! Actually we got back a week ago, but youngest and myself got sick (still are!), had a birthday weekend (long story if you haven't heard why we do bday weekends), and just life in general! Usually it is just the kiddos that have problems getting into the groove but I can't seem to get enough caffeine to get me through the days and the energy to make them do their work! Oh boy, do I need someone to help me and I am sure others to get on track after being off.

So come on all you fabulous SHS peeps, help out those of us lost on how to get back on track!!

We also just got back from vacation, and my son has no trouble getting back into the groove, however I am the one who seems to be in slow motion, the weather has me in fall mode, and have a ton of things on my mind that I would like to get done, and would love another week off just for me, but my son loves school and I cannot do that to him, so I have been letting him pick what we do for this week, and for how long we go, this seems to have been helping the past few days, slow and steady wins me over... and what is up with being exhausted after having been away, lol I need a vacation after the vacation...

I've found that LG has different reactions to starting back to school after a short break. We didn't take the summer off, but mostly because I knew I wouldn't be able to pull myself back together. As for him, sometimes he is really ready to get rollling and will spend the entire day in school work. Other times, he just wants to work on one or two things a day for a couple days. I'm a big planner, so it drives me nuts, but it all works out.

We generally ease back into it, if the break has been of any length. If we've only taken a day off, we just continue our normal routine. But after a few months off in the summer, for example, we ease back into the first week.

Last year we were on the move between NY and NC constantly so there was never a schedule and a lot of stuff got left undone. I wanted to make sure we finished up the year over the summer before jumping headfirst into this new year, so I set up a schedule over the summer so Nikko only had to do 1-3 lessons per day, with allowances for a day or two off every once in a while. We used a lot of those days off in the first few weeks of summer, but eventually we worked into getting the work done little by little and by the end of summer he was ready to go straight into full days for second grade.

We started on a Thursday so we would have a short first week. I kept the lessons short for the first few days. I was pleasantly surprised how well it went, actually. I was expecting it to be harder, but maybe doing school again was a bit of a novelty after the summer off.
