Cleaned out the homeschool bookcase!
Ooh, it needed doing. And boy was it satisfying. I'm disappointed I didn't take a before photo. Do you like to organize/sort your homeschool stuff? I do, but I hadn't done so in a very long time. I was getting ready to start our new school year this weekend, and started rooting around for a couple things.
One thing led to another, and I found myself culling out books we no longer need and/or will never use. It gained me space to organize the shelves better, and I'm breathing a sigh of relief!!
I posted a few things in the Swap thread, in case you are still looking for things. But mostly I just wanted to celebrate my mad organizational skills by sharing the joy here. Like to do it? No. But it reeeeaaaaally needs to be done sometimes, like now! I know I'll feel better once I've done it too. I have a box in the basement of stuff I need to find homes for.

It can be tedious, but at the same time, the number of times I said, "holy cow, I forgot I had THAT!!" far outweighed any negative thoughts I had. LOL

Share an inspirational “after” picture!
I was just looking at our shelves / homeschool work area, thinking it was time to clear it for the end of summer.
And yeah, finding those things you forgot you had.Homeschooling DS13, DS6.

Whew, it's not that inspirational, to be honest. Still pretty full. Just had stuff stuck all on the tops of books, which made getting anything out of there difficult. Once I get a few more things listed for sale, that will be better.

...and in the future can be bittersweet. I purged all but a few sentimental things of the kids when they went to college. I LOVE all the space I have now and was happy to sell/donate a lot of homeschool materials, but the last time around certainly does signify a change to a different life stage.

Okay, I was inspired. There's now a giant pile of stuff on my windowseat awaiting transport to a new basement home until it can go to a curriculum swap. Whew.

I'm purging stuff to get ready for the in-laws in two weeks. They're going to sleep in a third bedroom, which we use as our study the rest of the year. Except for when they come, it looks like something out of "Hoarders: Buried Alive", so yes, it needs de-cluttering. Our homeschool stuff and household files are in there as well. Yesterday, while DH and DS were out of the house, I worked at it and today, you can actually see 25% of the carpet.
Why oh why can't they stay in a hotel?!?!Homeschooling an only, DS9

I decluttered last month before our local used curriculum sale. I found things I forgot about, purged a lot, recouped money on things I didn’t need any more and patted myself on the back. Then I came home from the used curriculum sale. :sigh:
My daughter reads a lot and I love fueling that desire with low cost books of great quality. I put an unused bookcase in her room and put a bunch of her books in there and used the other 2 shelves for Playmobil. She promptly converted all 4 shelves to play space and the books no longer fit in the homeschool room/office. :bigger sigh:We took the summer off as I couldn’t get anything started w/o a regular routine in place. Doing 3rd grade now and so far so good.

I was decluttering a couple of months ago and I got rid of so much stuff. I hate going though the process of selling things, so I do it for a few items and then the rest goes to the library or a friend who is also a homeschooler. It works out since her kids are a couple of years younger. Everyone wins. Though I am looking at the shelves again and thinking they need another purge.
