I have a saying I coined awhile back.... "Google owns the world. They just let Facebook live in it."

I'm starting to wonder if it isn't soon going to be the other way around, though. Just about everyone I know has a Facebook account. Those who don't have at least pondered getting one, because they know they are missing out on something.

So if you have a website, no matter what the size, you begin to strategize on how to integrate it with the deity of social networks. That is true here at SecularHomeschool.com, too. We have had a Facebook presence since the beginning of the site, and it has grown to over 750 "Likes".

But this week, we are taking our Facebook connectivity to new levels with a new registration page for new members who would like to connect to the site using their Facebook account. (this is only for new registrations...it will not affect you if you are already registered with the site)

You will also notice that you can now "Like" individual articles, threads, and blogs from our site right on your own Facebook profile!! Just go to the top of each item and look for this logo:

I'd love to hear how you feel about these new options...feel free to comment below!

So quite a few of the members of SHS.com have been clamoring for a place to buy/sell/trade secular homeschool materials. I have avoided setting this up for a long time now, because I knew that anything involving the exchange of money can be tricky, not to mention create new headaches for me.

BUT, after some research, question-asking, and deep thought (well, deep for ME, anyway) I've decided to go ahead and set up a Secular Swap forum as an interesting experiment. If members use it, enjoy it, and have positive experiences with it, then I will probably make it a permanent fixture on the forum. If not, well then, que sera sera, right?

The truth is that secular homeschoolers often have to weed through 50 faith-based resources to find one secular one on other curriculum swap sites. That WON'T be the case here! This forum is for SECULAR HOMESCHOOL CURRICULUM and RESOURCES. Period!!

I hope this will be a fun and exciting addition to our site. I look forward to seeing where it goes....

My boys and I will be embarking on a study of the 50 states soon and I was wondering if anyone was up for a postcard exchange. I've never been in one before, but I think it would be a neat addition to our study. Any takers?
Thanks to jab300 for getting us started on a fun new project for the members of SecularHomeschool.com!! If you are interested in participating, we have a new private password-protected forum expressly for this purpose! All you have to do is use the Contact Form, Private Message me (Topsy), or email me at info@secularhomeschool.com with your site username to let me know that you want to participate and I will send you the password for the forum so you can safely post your child(ren)'s name and mailing address for the exchange!

Note: You MUST be a member of SecularHomeschool.com to participate in this project!!
