The first three I think of are St. Jude's, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I was a volunteer photographer for NILMDTS for a couple of years and, because they're not as...
So, dd and dh had a couple interviews with the local newspapers about the DC comic contest. One of the questions was what charity would you donate to? We hadn't thought about it since it's such a...
Are you new to the Secular Homeschool forum?(We all were at one point!) Maybe just a long-time lurker who has trouble finding their way around?(Been there, done that!) Just joined the forum to find other homeschoolers in your area but have been unable to do so?(Yep!)Well, it is your lucky day then! SHS has a support group section! There is a group for every State, Unschoolers, Road Schoolers, Raising Patriots, Homeschoolers in Germany, Virtual Earth Scouts and yes, even Pagan Homeschoolers! And that is just to name a few!
You are no longer alone on your homeschooling journey! You can join 1 group or multiples! Find like members who raise their homeschoolers the way you do! Chat it up, ask questions, get answers all within the power of those fingertips! On a forum that you already belong to! How cool is that?!
You live in say, Virginia and want to know if there are either other members on the forum FROM Virginia or if there are homeschool groups near you...check out this thread in the Virginia section: Where in Virginia?
Where are these "groups" you ask? Easy Peasy! Head to our Home page at SHS and check out the top green bar right above the articles and monthly contest giveaway! 4th from the left it says Groups, click on that and it will take you to all groups imaginable! We have 11, count them 11....pages of groups at SHS! WOW Once on the groups page, down on the lower right it says categories! Click VIEW ALL and it will take you to these 11 pages so you can then peruse and decide whether to join 1, 2 or 10+!
Enjoy, join, connect! Just another fun day at Secular Homeschool!

Spongebob in small doses is funny(to the right viewer)! Takes your mind away from whatever and lets you veg out!
Spongebob as my neighbor would make me move or do something even more drastic!
That pineapple would become a yummy tropical drink REALLY fast!
The same could be said amongst members on here!
Small doses of information and opinions are great, we love them. Someone ranting and raving over and over can drive us batty!
It can even make us visit the site less often, missing out on valuable homeschooling information!
YIKES! The horror!
Guess what...... there is a simple solution! The ignore list feature!
How do I accomplish this task you ask?
Head to your settings, which is located in the upper right corner! Click it!
Then once your page has loaded up, look over on the left side and find My Settings.
Scroll down to under My Account and you will see Edit Ignore List.
Click it and you can add the member you are having issues with!
Recap:
Got to Settings -> My Settings-> My Account -> Edit Ignore List
And once you've ignored a specific user, even their posts won't appear to you in the forum! No need to delete your account, no need to visit less often, no need to get into a debate....just ignore them!
Easy Peasy! Now...off to become a vegetable...I'm Ready, I'm Ready, I'm Ready..... oops, got stuck in Spongebob mode there!LOL

Have you seen that "like" button on your latest SHS post?
No, you didn't click your Facebook bookmark instead of your Secular Homeschool one....
You have noticed our NEWEST feature on SHS! The "LIKE" button!
If you are reading a post, any post or response in the forum....look in the lower right corner and you can see a Like / Share button!
It is available for EVERY post! Even responses within a post! You like it, click like!
AND at the top of the original thread, there will be a BIG "LIKE" and have a number before it. Say 33 Likes and if you hover or click this...it will open up and tell you which response was liked and how many times in chronological order!
You can also see at the bottom of each post or response WHO liked this post!
SWEEEET!!!
It is a slight twist on the "like" button we all love on FB!
Now, you can support your fellow SHS members by letting them know their post ROCKS! Or that you stand behind what they said! Or just because they sound(in written word) like they need to know you are there for them!
So...read those posts! Like those posts and let your fellow SHS'ers know you are there!
We at SHS "like" that!LOL
Oh...I almost forgot the "share" part... you can SHARE the post or response on a choice of 4 sources. Hover over it, it will pop up with Del.icio.us, Twitter, Digg, and Technorati. So...if you really want to pass along something you find of importance to your followers, this makes it mega easy for you to do so!
Share and Share alike!
(I do not think that I have EVER written the word "like" so many times in a paragraph!!)

Wow, this SecularHomeschool.com forum has gotten incredibly active. And we are thrilled to see so many new members join us recently. I thought it might be time to update the Forum How-To's article and share it again for our newbies. Here are some tips and tricks that will help you get the most out of your forum interactions here at SHS...
The first two forum posts by a new member are moderated to prevent spamming. They will appear within 24 hours of posting (and usually much sooner).
The default setting for threads within a forum section is for the threads with the most recent activity to be at the top. But you can also change these settings to view, for instance, the thread with the most VIEWS at the top. To change these settings, simply click on the column header for each title to sort (replies/views/last post/etc.) You may also use the "Thread Display Options" menu at the bottom of the forums pages:
If you want to quickly jump from one forum to another (or even to another part of the site), use the "Quick Navigation" menu below most forums
There are a few different ways to search for something in the forums:
Use the search box
Use the advanced search for filtered searches
Use the search forum menu for specific forums
To see the latest posts in the forum...
if you are NOT logged in, you can click on the link called "Today's Posts" to view all posts in the last 24 hours
if you ARE logged in, that link changes to "New Posts" and will show all posts since your last log-in
Not many in this group and I am not really surprised. But a big hello to those who are here! This fall we'll be starting our 8th (wow) year of homeschooling in Utah. I have two daughters and a son.
Hi all,
My family is relocating back to Colorado after living in Washington state for 4 years. We are looking for a house in Broomfield/Westminster/Arvada so will live somewhere in that area since
We moved the chrysalides to the pavilion and pinned it to the side. I put down some paper towel on the bottom -good thing, too! You’ll see why soon…
And before long, we had five beautiful...
Well, we discovered that learning and writing about 50 states in 50 days just isn't gonna happen (I know, I always have GIANT aspirations!), but we are still spending 50 different school day learning...
Since we homeschool we are used to grabbing the “teachable moment”, but that doesn’t mean I always like them. Case in point…cicadas.
These disgusting little creatures have begun digging out of...
Why do I homeschool my child when I could probably get him into one of the best private schools in the state (where I used to teach), or send him to the public school? A few reasons.
First is the...
