Maybe I'm a little too Facebook addicted but I think it would be really nice to have some sort of notification thing where it told you when a post you commented on was replied to other then having to hunt all the posts down and check the icon next to them. Maybe there is something here and I'm missing it?
Sarbare0704 asked this great question on our Feedback forum today, and I thought the answer to it might be interesting to ALL our regular forum posters!!
Oh...no worries, Sara! We are Facebook competitive around here!! There is this great little setting in your "Settings" menu that will accomplish just what you are asking for. Head up to your Settings menu -> then look for "Forum Settings" in your lefthand sidebar. Scroll down to "Default Thread Subscription Mode". You will see a drop-down box where the default setting is "Do Not Subscribe." You want to change this setting to: "Through My Control Panel Only" (OR you can have the notifications sent to you via email, if you don't mind a clogged up inbox!!)

With this setting, you will get notifications each time you log in of any new responses to the threads you have posted in! Cool, huh??

Many members of SHS.com also happen to be bloggers. Some host their blogs at Wordpress, Blogger, or Homeschool Blogger. Others host their blogs on their own domain.

But for those who are starting new blogs, or want to have a blog focusing on secular homeschooling, you might want to host your next blog right here at SecularHomeschool.com!!
    Here's why...

    1) It's Simple !!
Starting a new blog is as easy as clicking "Create New Post" on the main Blogs Page

    2) It's Easy to Use
The blog interface couldn't be more user-friendly. You simply pick a title for your blog post and start writing! The formatting tools are very similar to what you would find on any word processing software, but if you have any questions about what one of the icons does, just hover your cursor over it to have it identified.

    3) It's Fully Featured
Just like most blogging hosts, blogs at SHS.com have the ability to add images, videos, links, html, smilies, tags, and more. In addition, blogs can be saved as drafts to work on later, or published immediately.

I know. I know. You finally go through the registration process, get logged into the site, and excitedly enter your first post on the forum.

But wait? Where is it??!! Did you do something wrong? Press the wrong button? Post to the wrong thread?

Nah. You're good. You are just being "MODERATED." All that means is that your first two posts must be read by a moderator before they will appear on the forum. That also means they won't appear immediately... but don't worry, I check often for new threads, and approve them as soon as I can - - almost always within 24 hours of your posting (and usually much sooner).

We all want to find other secular homeschoolers near us, right?? Well, there is a feature on SHS.com that I personally think is quite cool! It is called the "Member Locator", and it is located in the Community Drop-Down Menu of the Forum. If you are willing to be "Found", all you have to do is make sure to fill in two crucial fields in your profile...

To check about this, go to the Settings menu on the top main navigation menu, and then look for "My Settings" on the left hand sidebar. And then click on "Edit Settings".

The software that we have transitioned to here at SecularHomeschool.com makes it super easy to create and write your own blog. To begin, simply click on "Blogs" in the top navigation menu, then click on "Create New Post" in the top, right-hand corner of the blogs page. Clicking on this will take you to your very own blog page!
