    Default Hello from New Mexico!

    Hi all,

I have a 13 y/o boy and an 8 y/o girl and up until December 2018, my children were attending a part homeschool, part classroom public alternative school offered by our district. We had been at that school since my 13 y/o was in kindergarten. They provided the curriculum and the parents teach it when the kids are not in school, and monitor homework. That school is a great school overall, but, with my children's special needs, they just weren't able to properly accommodate. Therefore, we all discussed and made the decision to homeschool 100%. I'm feeling great excitement to be able to do this for my kids, but also some major anxiety as to whether or not I'll be able to give them the opportunities to learn everything they need to learn. Our primary focus is to allow them to learn by interest, but also incorporating the major subjects within these areas of interest. I have not bought any specific curriculum for either one of them yet. They are also actors and singers and have recently been cast in a musical in town which begins rehearsing in a few days, so I don't want to overwhelm them. I joined this forum to gain insight and feedback when we are ready to dive into this in more depth. I'm looking forward to getting to know others on here!

Welcome! It sounds like theyre doing well!
At your leisure (since theater legitimately takes up a lot of energy and covers more than just language arts!) you can search the archives here, and also ask questions you have.

SecularHomeschool.com is a community and information source where secular homeschoolers ARE the majority. It is the home for non-religious homeschoolers, eclectic homeschoolers, freethinking homeschoolers AND anyone interested in homeschooling irrespective of religion. This site is an INCLUSIVE community that recognizes that homeschoolers choose secular homeschool materials and resources for a variety of reasons and to accomplish a variety of personal and educational goals. Although SecularHomeschool.com, and its members, have worked hard to compile a comprehensive directory of secular curricula, it does not attest that all materials advertised on our site, in our newsletters, or on our social media profiles are 100% secular. Rather, SecularHomeschool.com respects the aptitude of each individual homeschool parent to fully research any curriculum before acquiring it, to ensure that it holistically meets the educational, personal, and philosophical goals of each homeschooler.
