Default AOPS Problem Solving Series Books (Volume 1 and 2)

Does anyone have any feedback on these books that include problems to prepare for math contests? I am also wondering what the prerequisites are? My daughter has completed Saxon Algebra I and has some exposure to geometry though the Barrons Geometry Painless Series. I cannot tell from the description on the website if Volume 1 will be a good fit for my daughter.

We are doing AoPS Algebra I this year. He took a different algebra course last year (ie. Khan, Keys to Algebra) and did well, but we want him to go deeper. AoPS is rigorous and THE preparatory course for math competitions.
