Secular/Inclusive Homeschool Conventions

This is great! I'm pretty sure there is another inclusive conference somewhere around DC, tho - dont have a contact for it, tho.

There is also the Northeast Unschooling Conference which takes place in Wakefield, MASS.

Thank you sooo much for posting these conferences. I found one near where we live and this means the world to us. We are definately planning on being there.

So are all the inclusive conferences for unschoolers?

The only one in Texas is for RADICAL unschoolers. We have a lot of friends that go to it every year, but it is not a good fit for us at all.

There is definitely a leaning toward unschooling in many of the secular/inclusive conferences, but there are also plenty of other homeschooling methods covered in the HSC Conference, MHA Conference, VaHomeschoolers, WPA, and WHO Conferences.

The dates for the CHN conference have been published - July 21-24, 2011. You can register now at a pretty deep discount ($40 per couple versus $100 per couple).

drats! I was thinking of going since it was the only one listed in Texas. But I don't unschool, and I think radical unschoolers might freak me out. I thought I remembered seeing a secular one in Houston last year, I'll see if I can find it again and repost for others in Texas...

Registration is open for the Inhome Conference in Chicago. We are planning to go. The kids are very excited after seeing the kids classes available. If anyone else plans to attend let me know and maybe we could meet up.

The two in Houston are The Woodlands conference and SESTHA. Neither of which are secular. I will be at The Woodlands conference this year and have attended the SESTHA one in the past.

Just want to mention that the VA Homeschooler's convention had a session or two on unschooling last year, and the overall leaning is probably towards relaxed homeschooling, but certainly not radical unschooling. Many of the presenters were former teachers, and they list lots of curriculum options. I would probably not be comfortable at a radical unschooling convention - judging from how uncomfortable I get hanging out for 2 hours at a socail event with a couple of them
