• Uh-Oh, it's time for GRADUATION!

Many of us are rapidly approaching the end of our 2017-2018 homeschool year, and those of us with high schoolers may have graduations to consider! It’s hard to believe it’s time for graduation. And just whether it is coming up this year or within in the next couple years, it is never too soon to plan. So, take a deep breath, you can do this!

Depending on your state’s requirements, you can either be issued a diploma from the state or school district OR you can issue the diploma yourself. Now what? Start planning.

    • Do you want it to be a big or small celebration?
    • Would you like to get your graduate involved?
    • Plan it as a surprise?
    • Traditional cap and gown?
    • Homeschool creative?
    • Commemorative pictures?

In our family, we like to keep it low-key, and personal. The graduate gets to pick dinner at a restaurant of their choice, cards and gifts are usually sent from the relatives. Mom gets to issue the diploma and cry a little(ok, a lot!) and bada-bing, by the magic of homeschooling, we have a high school graduate.

Several of our friends celebrate in other ways such as large parties, graduation ceremonies, and special planned trips to mark the occasion. SHS Member Topsy covered this in a past article, Creative Ideas for Homeschool Graduation.

Did you know that just because your homeschooler is graduating, it does not mean homeschooling has to stop. Let’sHomeschoolHighSchool.com has a terrific article on homeschooling college. My graduate was thrilled to learn that we could continue the homeschooling journey together for a little longer. As an added bonus, Mom was able to take some classes too. We even have taken a couple classes together.

Congratulations on your new graduate! Make sure you take the time to pat yourself on the back. They wouldn’t have made it this far without all your hard work too!

Hmmm Perhaps you are thinking of edu-sents (sic). They kept popping up, posing as real homeschooling parents, just happening to share the sale on the site. Also distasteful.
