• Homeschooling Abbreviations and Acronyms




    Long-time homeschoolers begin to create their own "shorthand" on forums and boards that can leave newbie home educators with that what-just-happened-here look on their faces. The following list of homeschooling acronyms and abbreviations is designed to help those who are new to the universe begin to find their way around more easily. (Most of the terms on this list relate specifically to SECULAR resources, although there are plenty of other shorthand terms for faith-based ones) 100EL = Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

    AG & AGJr = Analytical Grammar/Analytical Grammar Jr.

    AAS = All About Spelling

    AO = Ambleside Online

    BFSI = Building Foundations of Scientific Inquiry

    CM = Charlotte Mason

    DWN = Draw Write Now

    ETC = Explode the Code

    FLL = First Language Lessons for the Well Trained Mind

    GSWL = Getting Started with Latin

    GT = Gifted and Talented

    GWG = Growing With Grammar

    HO = History Odyssey

    HOP = Hooked on Phonics

    HOTA = Handle on the Arts

    HWT/HWOT = Handwriting Without Tears

    IEW = Institute for Excellence in Writing

    LLB = Living Learning Books

    LFC = Latin for Children

    LNST = Latin's Not So Tough LOF = Life of Fred

    LP = Latin Prep

    MM = Math Mammoth

    MBTP = Moving Beyond the Page

    MCT = Michael Clay Thompson Language Arts Curriculum

    MEP = Mathematics Enhancement Programme

    MSB = Magic School Bus

    MTH = Magic Tree House

    MPH = My Pals are Here (Singapore Science)

    MTDVD = Math Tutor DVDs

    MUS = Math U See

    OPGTR = Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading

    QMM = Quarter Mile Math

    RS = Rosetta Stone

    RSO = R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey

    SM = Singapore Math

    SOTW = Story of the World: History for the Classical Child

    SSL = Song School Latin

    SSV = Soaring with Spelling and Vocabulary

    T4L = Time4Learning

    TT = Teaching Textbooks

    TWTM = The Well Trained Mind

    WS = Writing Strands

    WWW = Winning with Writing
