Has anyone seen a puzzle that is cut at the tectonic plates? Or one that has the tectonic plates of Earth History? DS is obsessed with the changing tectonic plates and thought something like this has to be out there somewhere but not having luck. Anyone else seen/have something like this?

I can't believe someone hasn't already done this already! It's gotta be out there somewhere.

My son would have loved that idea in preschool! It's a great idea!

You know what would be extra cool would be a layer puzzle that way. We've seen some simple ones where the bottom layer is one picture, then there's another layer and another, etc. All made out of wood. The one I'm remembering was a caterpillar on bottom turning into a butterfly. But you could have the bottom layer be one point in geologic history, then the middle be another, and the top be today - all with the pieces cut at the plates. You could use a different color scheme to help distinguish the different layers.

That would be awesome! Now to get someone to make something like that! I'm not crafty at all!

If you combine these two sites, you could make your own -

Make a relief map jigsaw puzzle :: NASA's The Space Place (http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/topomap-puzzle/) - for the instructions on how to do it
and
CVO Website - Plate Tectonics, Hot Spots, and Ring of Fire - World Map (http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Glossary/PlateTectonics/Maps/map_plate_tectonics_world.html) - for the template

ETA: Here's a site that includes a patterns for a posterboard puzzle (scroll to the end, it is in Appendix B) - http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/explorations/10chile/background/edu/media/whenplates.pdf

I think I have what you are looking for or something that could easily be adapted. It is paper and from a reproducible wb. I can scan it Monday and email it to you if you like.
